THE WORK TRIANGLE
Kitchen efficiency can be measured by the concept of a work triangle. Excess movement is cut down by centering your work space.
The work center connects the refrigerator, sink, and range (or cooktop).

The Work Triangle
General Rules to follow when Planning your Work Space
  • Each side of the triangle should be at least four feet and no greater than nine feet.
  • The triangle should be a straight line without interruptions (traffic and/or cabinetry).
  • The sum of the 3 sides of the triangle should measure no more than 26 feet and no less than 12 feet.
  • The triangle is measured from the center of the sink to the center of the refrigerator to the center of the cooktop.
